First Gravel Eliminator winner Herrmann delighted with the atmosphere at the technical race on gravel
A highlight and another premiere at 3RIDES. On Saturday, May 11th, the CHIO grounds in Aachen provided the venue for the first Gravel Eliminator, which, according to participants and observers, has what it takes to become a new format. Under the sporting direction of eight-time German cross and one-time German road champion Marcel Meisen, this new competition was created, which once again increased the appetite for the gravel races on Sunday. The local hero from Stolberg had put together the field of riders and defined the rules. In front of around 500 spectators, the athletes competed in a thrilling elimination race on the gravel track around the driving stadium of the Aachen CHIO grounds. There were 13 starters in the race, fighting to be the last to cross the finish line after every bell. One participant had to leave the race every other time they crossed the finish line. In the end, Lukas Herrmann (Heizomat Radteam p/b Kloster Kitchen) won the 800-meter course ahead of Jonas Köpsel (Nagel CX Team) and Silas Koech (Rembe Pro Cycling Team Sauerland). "The format was mega, especially that it took place the day before the race around the Expo in a good atmosphere. There was always action. It was a technical course, which is good for me. I would like to see something like this more often," said Herrmann after the award ceremony.
