3RIDES opens registration for first German race of “UCI Gran Fondo World Series” and brings Gravel Qualifier to Aachen again

  • Registration for both UCI races starting October 1 with discount for first 100 entries to each race
  • Gravel races take place on longer loop than 2023 in Aachen’s western and northern parts
  • Road Gran Fondos take international field to Monschau and the Rursee Lake

Aachen, September 28, 2023: The Aachen-based cycling event 3RIDES is starting its third season and will bring a sportive road race of the "UCI Gran Fondo World Series" to Germany for the first time in 2024. On May 12, 2024, two races will start from the CHIO grounds in Aachen's Soers district, which will attract an ambitious international field of non-professional athletes and top riders under the UCI license. For the first time, a German organizer has secured the seal for a race of the "UCI Gran Fondo World Series". In this international series, starters qualify for the hobby world championships, which are scheduled for 2024 in Aalborg, Denmark. "In our third year, we are again significantly increasing the value of our event and continue the pioneer work for the development of cycling in Germany and the region beyond our borders with Belgium and the Netherlands," says Björn Müller, managing director of 3RIDES.

Longer loop for the Gravel race

As in the previous year - 2023 for the first time in Germany - the 2024 edition of 3RIDES will also feature a qualifying race of the "UCI Gravel World Series". Compared to the internationally highly regarded competition last May, the 2024 race will no longer be held on a short circuit, but on a loop of about 60 kilometers in the west and north of Aachen. In 2023, top German rider Paul Voß won the first edition in a strong competition that also starred reigning world champion Gianni Vermeersch, and Dutch rider Tessa Neefjes took the women's victory.

Two routes on the roads of the Eifel

In the race that forms part of the road-based "UCI Gran Fondo World Series" there will be two routes to choose from, which are currently planned to be 140 kilometers (Gran Fondo) or 110 kilometers (Medio Fondo) long and will lead into the low-mountain range of the Eifel between Aachen, Monschau and the western shore of the Rursee. "Internationally, this race series has already received considerable attention, but in Germany it is still new - that's why we are glad that we are providing new impetus for the sports scene here, as we did last year, and that we will be attracting a very diverse field to our region," says Björn Müller.

Registration on October 1 with discount for first participants

Registration for both races is open from October 1. There are no licensing requirements to participate in the UCI series races. Registration costs 75 euros, which includes race refreshments. There will be a 10 Euro discount for the first 100 registrations for both races.
